Providing treatment for cats and dogs suffering from debilitating joint disease.
Arthritis is a progressive disease that is also common in dogs, cats, and other pets. The disease is often seen in older pets, but younger ones are not immune. When your dog or cat has the disease they experience pain which can affect their mobility. Our main goal is to provide relief for your pet when they have arthritis. Our veterinarians have experience treating this disease and will provide therapies that can have your loyal companion back on their feet.
Most pets have a type of arthritis known as osteoarthritis (OA). OA develops due to wear and tear over the years. The cartilage separating their bones starts to diminish due to their physical activities, diet, and overall lifestyle. Cartilage prevents the bones from rubbing against each other; when this happens your pet experiences pain and inflammation at the joint. Some cats and dogs can also develop arthritis from injuries, genetics, or from being overweight.
Arthritis can affect anywhere in the body that has joints. Most often pets have osteoarthritis in their hips, lower back, elbow, knees, and wrists. To identify the disease our team uses digital X-rays and physical examination. When your dog or cat has the disease they will show physical and even emotional signs that they are in pain. Here are some symptoms to watch for:
The sooner your pet's symptoms diagnosed, the better their quality of life can be. Please contact our team at 705-431-5570 to schedule an appointment.
Although the disease has no cure, it is still possible for your loyal companion to live comfortably with their diagnosis. Since arthritis causes inflammation and pain our team can prescribe medication to manage their symptoms. We may recommend one or more of the following:
